About the Durga Kavach

The Durga Kavach ("armor of Durga") is a protective hymn from the Markandeya Purana, the same text that contains the Devi Mahatmyam (Chandi Path). In it, Brahma describes to the sage Markandeya a hymn that invokes different forms and names of Durga to guard each part of the body and mind.

It's traditionally recited before reading the Chandi Path or Durga Saptashati, and especially during Navaratri, as a prayer for protection and courage.
